Art Capades provides easy, fun and educational Visual Arts activities suitable for early childhood. It is also available in Spanish. Discovering peace
This unit includes various activities to encourage students, and in particular, ESOL students, to explore vocabulary related to peace, as well as their own feelings about peace. a.s.p.i.r.e. School Network
The a.s.p.i.r.e. school network is the Australian Olympic Committee's national education program for primary educators. It is a free, online, values based program that provides access to Olympic themed resources, a school recognition certificate, a newsletter and one Boxing Kangaroo (BK) Medallion, given to a student who demonstrates the a.s.p.i.r.e. values at school. Teachers may choose Olympic themed lessons from Lower Primary (kindergarten and grades 1-2), Middle Primary (grades 3-4) and Upper Primary (grades 5-6).

ABC Children's TV - the playground
Australian Broadcasting Corporation's gateway to the internet for children. The site has been designed to provide an entertaining environment for children and grown-ups to explore. It incorporates a range of well known characters and programs from ABC Television as well as fun activities and games for children of all ages. There are games to play online, as well as a Games Download Zone with games to play when you are not connected to the internet. Included are schedules for the week's television programs.

Aboriginal astronomy
Australia's indigenous peoples have a rich heritage of astronomical observation and story telling. This website contains stories from 'The Emu in the Sky', a collection of Aboriginal astronomy stories from all around Australia.

Aboriginal Australia Map
The Aboriginal Australia wall map represents work carried out for the Encyclopaedia of Aboriginal Australia. Using the published resources available between 1988 and 1994, the map attempts to represent language, tribal or nation groups of Australia's Indigenous peoples. It is possible to click on grid sections of the map for an enlarged image.

Aboriginal perspectives through integrated units

Aboriginal Studies resources
The list, Main Book List K-12, found on the linked page, was produced for gleebooks in conjunction with the Independent Education Union (IEU) and the Catholic Education Office (CEO) Aboriginal officers. It aims to provide resources to support the six strands in the NSW curriculum, as well as providing schools, libraries, preschools, play groups and community groups with a comprehensive list of published resources. Beside each title in the general K-12 section is a code, indicating the year range the book or DVD could be used with. Aboriginal tools and artefacts

Active-Ate
Active-Ate is a collection of resources developed by the Queensland Health Tropical Public Health Unit Network to promote physical activity and nutrition in primary schools. NAWMA Environment Education Centre

Fairy Tale Land
This site allows users to listen to nine popular fairy tales and nursery rhymes , and then undertake a variety of both online and offline activities. The Fairy Tale Land site is aimed at Yr 1 and Yr 2 children but there are some activities relevant to some younger or older children. The exercises will be of particular use when the fairytale is the focus text of the week, to reinforce sight recognition of new words that occur in the story. In this Flat Stanley International Communications Project students make paper Flat Stanleys (or Flat Marys, Flat Alices, Flat Toms, etc) and exchange them, along with journals to record adventures, and keep in touch by email. It has become a way to develop literacy skills, foster understanding and increase global communication.

Gateways case study 27: Aboriginal talking books
This case study is from a group of Australian teacher case studies illustrating experiences of using Information Technology (IT) to enhance student learning outcomes. In this case, the group consisted of Aboriginal children in years 1-7 in a remote Aboriginal Community where 3 languages are taught - English as a Second Language (ESL), and Burarra and Ndjbbana in bilingual classes. The teacher used HyperCard to create a series of talking books incorporating Aboriginal languages, where students were involved in making the book, seeing their own pictures and hearing themselves speak. NSW Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier of NSW, the Hon Bob Carr, instituted the Premier's Reading Challenge to encourage a love of reading. The Challenge is open to students who are in Years 2 to 8 inclusive in NSW Government or non-Government schools or the equivalent in home schooling and accredited Australian International schools. To receive a certificate, students must read 20 books in a one-year cycle. Fifteen of the books must be on the Premier's Reading Challenge list. Students must fill out a Reading Record as they complete each book.

Oxford Wordlist research summary
The Oxford Wordlist research study summary provides teachers and researchers with an academic analysis of the results of the research conducted in Australian schools in 2007 - an investigation of high frequency words in young children's writing and reading development. The study's aim was to gain insight into what words students in Australian schools most commonly use in their own writing in their first three years of school. This information was used to provide a contemporary word list for Australian students that may be used for writing and reading purposes. Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge

Illuminations - Grades Pre-K - 12
This page contains activities and resources that are appropriate for teachers at the PreK-12 grade level to use as they reflect on, plan for, and implement mathematics education in their classrooms. K-2 Student Interactives
The Utah Education Network website provides a selection of interactive learning activities for young children on: ABCs, reading, listening, writing, works, art and music, my world, maths, brain games, and health. The health section includes games about feelings and respect.

K-3 Themes at Enchanted Learning
These themes have links to simple crafts, nursery rhymes, coloring book printouts, information, and/or quizzes based on the topic. They include theme pages about animals, language, and special events.

KS1 Bitesize Games: Numeracy
This is a collection of fun and interactive games to help children at junior primary level with numeracy. Topics include: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, number ordering, number sequences, place value, length, weight, measurement, telling the time, 2D and 3D shapes.

Learning Planet - Preschool, kindergarten
A small collection of simple literacy and numeracy games are provided for young children, including an alphabet game, count your chickens, a matching game, a number train, timeworks clock, and other games with shapes, colours, letters and numbers.

Lego Education: Activity Bank
Within this section of the Lego Website is a variety of activities suitable for early childhood through to students studying robotics. Curriculum topics cover some Key Learning Areas.

Literacy Centre
Children will learn uppercase letter, lowercase letters, shapes, writing, words, numbers, and colors, playing flash games. This site is also useful for teachers of languages other than English, like Spanish, German and French.

Little Fingers Games
A range of interactive games are provided for young children including alphabet and counting games. However the money games use US coins. The games give grade level for each activity.

Magnetic numbers
This interactive teaching program allows learners to drag and drop numerals to construct and answer number sentences. The game may be used with interactive whiteboards or on individual computers.

Math Forum - Teachers' Place
The Math Forum, an online community funded in part by the National Science Foundation and hosted by Swarthmore College, has been built with the contributions of math educators, interested volunteers, and online programming groups, including the Perl and Apache communities. The site presents a collection of on-line maths resources, including puzzles and games as well as homework help and the serious stuff. It supports the development of the community of teachers and students, creators and appliers of mathematics, the education community, and all others with an interest in mathematics.

This website contains printable and interactive online activities for young students aged between 3 - 6. From learning numbers and matching numbers to easy addition this resource is a great way to encourage math whilst using ICT's.

MathsCards
This is a simple interactive game for young children where they can click on a number and match it with a picture of numbers of objects. Children can work at increasing levels of difficulty.

MathTools: PreK
This website gives a compilation of math tools for early learning, ages 3-5 years. Covering topics such as pattern blocks, operations with numbers, addition, subtraction, number sense and counting, the site links to a variety of learning objects and mathematical interactive games. For some there are suggested lesson plans and procedures. Others are self-explanatory.

A collection of resources with a pirate theme are provided: a pirate patterns mat, a pattern sheet, pirate board game, maths mat, dominoes, and a colouring sheet.

This website provides free downloadable resources which are suitable for children age from 4 to 11. Resources range from original ideas for things you can make with your class to items for classroom displays.

Number time
Number time is an educational site from the BBC, with games, activities, animations and songs aimed at developing numeracy skills in 5-7 year olds.

Numberjacks
The BBC site 'Numberjacks' has a variety of interactive number games for young children, including a very simple sudoku, matching numbers game, number snap, number jigsaw, dominoes and more. There are also colouring printouts of number shapes and a recipe for numberjack biscuits.

Picture Arithmetic
Picture Arithmetic is freeware that allows pupils to practice the four rules of arithmetic. Ten questions are set and marked with each correct answer causing part of a mystery picture to be revealed. By editing the teacher's control pages, the teacher can control the degree of difficulty of the questions set and/or select a particular number to add, subtract, multiply or divide by.

Position paper on early childhood mathematics
A joint position paper of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers and Early Childhood Australia, this paper recommends appropriate actions to ensure that all young children have access to powerful mathematics ideas and learning in their early years, and to learning that ensures success and positive dispositions. It recommends pedagogical practices for early childhood educators, teacher education insitutions and educator providers.

Sesame Street
For fans of Sesame Street, this colourful site, based on the television characters, offers children a range of activities to complete either on or offline. Children can print off alphabet letters, shapes and opposites to colour; read an online storybook about Elmo's trip to a farm and complete a range of activities that require visual discrimination skills (find the hidden letter/number), manual dexterity (join the dots and fit the shapes) and decision-making skills (help Cookie Monster to choose foods for a salad). Suitable for Early Childhood.

Smartkiddies Mathematics
Smartkiddies is an online, maths learning program for primary school children. The complete mathematics program is developed by teachers and includes interactive maths lessons, mathematics worksheets, maths assessment tasks, and maths number challenges. It is available as a free trial for home use before fees apply but it is available free to all schools. Teachers need to register.

Thirteen ways of looking at a half
This interactive game looks at fractions and demonstrates how 1/2 can look before progressing into the game.

Letchworth Museum in England produced this site to accompany a museum workshop for Early childhood pupils. The workshop can be used as part of a Science Unit, focusing on hands-on, interactive learning. The Animal Trail is a good interactive whiteboard activity.

ABC TV's Our Animals
Developed to support an ABC TV series of the same name aimed at lower to middle primary students, this web site looks at Australian animals, their physical features, food, homes and environment and social groups. For animals in the air, on the ground and in the water, there are colouring sheets and a glossary.

NSW Country Areas Program research modules stage one
The New South Wales Country Areas Program online research modules for years 1 and 2 aim to provide an easy introduction to Internet research.
